St. Jerome Library

Imagine a place, a cozy place, designed and created just for reading, telling stories and writing them. Imagine a place where opponents spar on wooden chess boards as a carved fireplace warms their toes.....

Children have access to our uniquely curated Catholic library all week, and have library class on Discovery Days. Classical books and modern selections were guided by the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education and Cardinal Newman Society Children's Reading List.

New in Our Kitchen Conservatory  Autumn ~ Fairy Tales Cooking Class

Bunny Strawberry.png

One cup of curiosity

a teaspoon of sweetness

a dash of salt

8 stories ripe for the picking

an apron, a laddle, a peeler or two

an abundance of flour

plenty of veggies for sauces and stews

Mix it together, cook for one hour

And delight will ensue!

Cooking and baking can nourish the mind, spirit and body. Teaching children about nature's bounty of foods that look beautiful, taste spicy and sour, feel prickly and smooth, provide opportunity to build vocabulary, sensory experience, and practical skills. In the first half of the school year, children will build basic culinary expertise, learn about food and kitchen safety, and make fairy tales come alive, as we make recipes from some of our favorite classical stories. Each week in the Kitchen Conservatory, the children will learn to explore texture and flavor, learn virtues of patience, creativity, resourcefulness, orderliness, cleanliness, and about measurement, time, and sequencing.
