Full-year ~ Writing and Classical Literature ~English Language Arts
Articulate writing begins with sound reading comprehension, knowledge of concepts, strong vocabulary choices, understanding of grammar and various sentence structures. Through direct writing instruction, students will develop clear, concise written expression. Our focusing on improving quality of writing will help to improve students' writing confidence and skill. We've selected readings, classical modern novels, biographies of saints, short stories, and articles, to help students build background knowledge and recognize the challenges of living a virtuous life. See the Cardinal Newman List of Children's Literature for more of the course titles that may be used in the five terms. Whether your student loves to write or struggles with writing, this course will unit them in exploring the writing process.
This course is taught by master teacher, Ms. Tara Columb, M.Ed., experienced middle grade educator of over thirty years, certified in English Language Arts, and skilled in curriculum design, teaching students with variability, and teaching writing. She is a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish and is delighted to be teaching at Holy Trinity Catholic School.
